The House Ledger
of Lord Puffer

California's largest walk-in humidor, three lounges, and a family that's been writing the specials board by hand since 1987. Every box on our shelves earns its own line in this ledger.

Kept in the Family

Harold Croft never set out to open a cigar shop. In 1987 he was a retired ship's purser with a citrus grove he didn't much care for and a six-box cedar cabinet behind the register of his hardware store on Grand Avenue — kept for the regulars who lingered past closing. Word got around Escondido fast.

The hardware store became a humidor. The humidor became a lounge. By the time his son Nathaniel took over the ledger in 2003, Lord Puffer had outgrown three separate buildings. Nearly forty years and one very large walk-in later, the Croft family still writes the specials board by hand — and still remembers how you take your pour.

Three Rooms, One Set of House Rules

Cigar time isn't one-size-fits-all, so we never built it that way. Three lounges for the regular rotation, a patio for the nights that call for BBQ smoke instead of cigar smoke, a private room for the ones who'd rather not share the humidor with strangers, and a locker for the ones who stopped taking their cigars home altogether.

The Lounges

Leather chesterfields, exposed brick, and a television nobody's actually watching. Three rooms, same house rule: sit as long as you like.

The Outdoor Patio

Red umbrellas, BBQ smoke on Friday nights, and enough California air to make the humidor feel like a rumor.

Book it for a birthday, a deal closing, or a night you don't want interrupted. Pour included, door closed.

Why Your Cigar Tastes Different on the Patio

It isn't the BBQ smoke. It's humidity, wind, and the eleven degrees between our walk-in and the patio at six o'clock.
