Lord Puffer started as a six-stool smoke counter on a quiet Escondido block, opened in 1994 by Manny Reyes with a single glass case of Fuentes and a coffee pot that never really turned off. He wasn't trying to build a destination — he just wanted a place where the regulars could sit a while.

Three decades, two remodels, and one very stubborn humidor expansion later, that counter has grown into the largest walk-in humidor in California — three lounges, a patio, and a waiting list for lockers. Manny's daughter Sofia runs the floor most nights now. His rules still hold: no rushing anybody out the door, and always room for one more chair.
